Reading Town Ville Lecture 2016 Launch – The National Reading Campaign is calling on all readers and on all Sudburians who love to transmit creativity, knowledge and literacy through works of art. We will be launching Reading Town Sudbury Ville Lecture 2016, kicking off a multilingual celebration of reading throughout Greater Sudbury from April 30th to May 8th. Discover all of our off-the-wall programming at this very special launch, which will include entertainment and refreshments. Trivia In Wonderland – 3 rounds of 15 questions, and one bonus question per round. Pages are marked a-la grade 5 math class by passing them to a friend. Points scored for being awesome and promoting awesome things! Find a funny answer on someone’s card, even if its not the right answer you can still nominate them for an awesome star. We also reward jokers and pranksters and all those who don’t cheat! Winner takes home bragging rights and some awesome prizes. Cambrian Charity Carnival – It’s not every day that you can binge on cotton candy and popcorn at a carnival, in the middle of winter. The Cambrian Charity Carnival is your go-to event for taking a productive break between those tests and assignments. Dunk great people including Bill Best, president of Cambrian College, and Tony Ryma, CTV Northern Ontario news anchor. Maybe your friends can dunk you, but that’s up to you. Slam pies in the faces of Cambrian’s SAC leaders, Cambrian professors, or convince your friends to get pied. The money will be donated equally between the Sam Bruno P.E.T. Scan Fund of the Northern Cancer Foundation and Cambrian Foundation. Northern Lights Writes: March 2016 – Want to experience or perform some super diverse and impressive writing from local writers/performers? Look no further.  Monthly spoken word night at Speakeasy, with scheduled performers, as well as an open mic portion. The idea is to lead into a performance based workshop at the Northern Lights Festival Boréal 2016, but also just to provide a space for people to explore the spoken and written word. All types of material are welcome: poetry, slam, short stories, novel excerpts, oral storytelling, hip hop, but the idea is to focus on the power of words. Women’s Climbing Night  Ladies take over ARC once again… so treat yo’self! Join Bryn, Katie, Carol-Anne and the ARC ladies for a special offering where women can climb and connect. Meet and get on the wall with other women climbers in the gym (maybe you’ll find a new top-roping or lead climbing buddy!) or try out climbing for the first time in a supportive, encouraging environment with other women in the same boat. Fundraiser for Syrian Refugees – In an effort to sponsor a refugee family, the Islamic Association of Sudbury is organizing a fundraiser by screening the documentary RETURN TO HOMS. This documentary shows the impact of the Syrian Crisis on the city of Homs and on young families through the eyes of a young man.
