Things are about to get HOT this summer, and we’re not just talking about the forecast! Sudbury Burlesque is turning up the heat with exciting plans to bring the troupe to New York for the 5th annual NY Boylesque Festival and Toronto Burlesque Festival! Sudbury Burlesque‘s Boylesque team have been invited to New York City to perform in the 5th annual NY Boylesque Festival! So to help fund the trip to represent Sudbury, we are putting together a Boylesque review fundraiser show! Past performances will be brought back, vamped up and performed once again! All the favourites, or the ones that you missed! All Boylesque! June 4th at the birthplace of Sudbury Burlesque – The Fromagerie Elgin! With live performance by LUX an all-female fronted rock band. Amazing silent auction and great prizes!
Tell us about this exciting opportunity to perform at NY Boylesque festival. How it will help Sudbury Burlesque grow?
Performing at the 5th Annual NY Boylesque festival will put Sudbury in a more global limelight of the Burlesque culture. The opportunity to perform alongside these burlesque communities from Canada, United States and Japan will help put into perspective that what we do is a real form of entertainment and artistic expression. This experience will definitely make us more serious about being silly. Burlesque helps build confidence in ourselves as artists and with everyday interactions, and to grow in its community will benefit us immensely. The chance to network and work with other show producers, worldwide performers, and foreign audiences will build our skill set and will surely be reflected in our future shows. The trip alone to New York is exciting and we look forward to represent our great city!
What can you expect if this is our first Sudbury Burlesque event?
If you’ve never been to a show, expect to raise the roof with scantily clad men using the seductive art form of tease. Sexual comedy and innuendo are also to be expected. No nips, cracks, or crotches….but expect to see everything else. Burlesque shows are meant to be noisy! Shouting, cheering, and applauding in good taste is expected and highly encouraged.

Will Sudbury Burlesque be appearing in any other events this summer?
Sudbury Burlesque is very excited to be performing in the 9th Annual Toronto Burlesque Festival: July 28th-31st. Again we get to grow as performers and represent our talented city by bringing some of the best to Toronto. We do plan on making some more appearances as we always have something in the works! Jessica Lovelace is a Public Relations and Communications grad, musical theatre enthusiast, lover of live music and part-time unicorn tamer. Some have said that the Big Dripper from Sub City is a regional delicacy and the perfect end to a Sudbury Saturday Night – Jessica is definitely one of those people. No, the hair is not a perm.
