Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure

The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure is Canada’s largest, single-day, community-driven, fundraising event in support of breast cancer research, health education and advocacy programs.

Sunday, October 2nd marks Sudbury’s 19th local CIBC Run for the Cure event. Over the last 18 events, Sudbury has raised over $3.4 million for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

What is the fundraising goal for this year and how close are you to reaching that goal?

This year, our goal is to raise $115,000 for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation! With online donations alone, our participants have raised around $25,000. This number does not include donations that have been dropped off at a CIBC branch, we reveal the final number in the closing ceremonies on run day, but this last week is crunch time to get those donations in!

What does the event date look like?

Registration opens at 8:00 AM at Cambrian College, where teams who do not have their t-shirts yet, or have donations to drop off, can begin checking in.

Our opening ceremonies begin at 9:00 AM, where we will have Janice O’Reilly from the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation speaking, as well as Doug Sherrington from CIBC. In the opening ceremonies, we will also have Kathy Beck sharing her story with breast cancer, as she has just completed her treatment this summer.

Following the opening ceremonies, we will have a warm-up at 9:45 AM, hosted by Zumba Vibe, one of our local sponsors! Zumba Vibe will then lead everyone to the start line, for the race start time of 10:00 AM! The start line is the same for all races, however we have a 1 km option, a 5 km option, and a 5 km Zumba option!

Once most of the participants have crossed the finish line, around 11 AM, we will begin our Awards & Closing Ceremonies, where we will recognize the efforts of various teams and runners!

Can teams still register?

Teams can register online at Just remember, that all donations must be received (online or with dated CIBC bank stamp) by midnight, Friday September 29th, to count towards the fundraising totals for the awards!
