SUDBURY INDIE CINEMA GIVES THEIR TOP PICKS FOR NATIONAL CANADIAN FILM DAY!

SUDBURY INDIE CINEMA GIVES THEIR TOP PICKS FOR NATIONAL CANADIAN FILM DAY!

Today is a special day set aside to appreciate all things Canadiana! There’s just nothing like Canadian film, the indoctrination starts early with childhood favourites like Mr. Dressup, Sharon, Louise & Bram and Polka Dot Door. As we get a little older we’re introduced to Anne of Green Gables and Fly Away Home that both project coming of age stories against the kind of scenery we can only find up here. If you were really into the drama there’s the many regenerations of Degrassi to get you through – ‘it goes there’. Now all grown up you’re ready to...

TOP MOVIE RECOMMENDATIONS FROM TWO HORROR LOVING SISTERS

TOP MOVIE RECOMMENDATIONS FROM TWO HORROR LOVING SISTERS

My sister, Emmalee and I did not get along growing up. With a nearly six year age difference we fought like cats and dogs over everything you could imagine. Who got to use the family computer first, who’s turn it was with the remote, who owned what Barbie, who was going to get to ride shot gun (okay we still argue over that one). Our mother would tell us “if you can’t get along, don’t talk to each other at all!”, a sentiment we took very seriously for many sparsely worded years.  But somewhere among the acne and turbulence...

Who Will We See On National Canadian Film Day: Atom or Ryan?

Earlier this month, Sudbury Indie Cinema Co-op announced it’s hosting National Canadian Film Day on Wednesday, April 20th- a countrywide celebration of Canadian movies. Last year, with its crushing grassroots support, when Indie Cinema stepped into the local planning team, Sudbury’s CanFilmDay audience numbers shot us into the top 3% of all screenings across Canada. “We were quite shocked to learn months later from the head-honchos in Toronto that Sudbury had pulled one of the largest crowds in the country,” says Beth Mairs. Indie Cinema’s Project Manager. “ The folks at Reel Canada determined to help us this year...
