DIY Dental Hygiene Products

Do it yourself (DIY) is all the rage these days, it is pretty much why Pinterest was invented.  From home decor to lip scrubs, you can pretty much find out how to make anything these days but have you ever considered tooth paste or mouth wash?  Years ago I started switching all my products to more natural solutions, and recently I try to make as many of my products as I can. Making your own products can be great because you know exactly what goes in them and there are no surprises. Another amazing benefit is that they are actually healthier for you – a lot of manufactured products these days contain chemicals that your liver has to detox, which puts severe stress on your liver and can lead to health issues so today I’m sharing a few different DIY Dental Hygiene products with you!

Tooth Paste

Even though homemade toothpaste may not have the same texture, it still works!  Some ingredients you can use to make your own toothpaste are: coconut oil (coconut oil is anti bacterial, so it help kill germs), baking soda (the abrasiveness of baking soda helps to scrub stains off teeth and make them seem whiter), and essential oils such as peppermint, cinnamon and tea tree (these are all anti bacterial and will help kill germs).  You can mix them all together to create a paste and store it in a container to use.

Mouth Wash

Alcohol based mouth washes can dry out your mouth which can actually lead to more plaque build up.  To make your own mouth wash you can add warm water and sea salt to a jar, and top it off with some essential oils.  This mixture with help fight bacteria and infections, if you add peppermint oil to the mixture it will leave your breath smelling minty fresh.

Other

To add some extra bacteria fighting to your flossing, you can add tea tree oil to your floss before flossing.  If you have a tooth ache, try using clove oil to relieve the pain.

Making your own tooth paste and mouth wash is really easy, and can be very inexpensive .I hope you consider transforming your bathroom and taking some time out of your busy days to put together some of these DIY dental hygiene products. Your body and mouth will thank you in the end, and maybe even your dentist.
