Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction 8 Week Course / ORIENTATION

MINDFULNESS is the awareness that arises through paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgmentally. (Kabat-Zinn)
Mindfulness techniques, strategies, and practices develop and strengthen the skills of concentration, clarity, and equanimity.

MINDFULNESS-BASED STRESS REDUCTION (MBSR)
• educational experiential learning program
• offered in a group setting, guided by qualified MBSR teachers
• 8 weekly classes (2.5 hours each) plus an all-day silent retreat during the 6th week of the program
• exploration of mindfulness, stress, communication
• intensive training in mindfulness meditation (e.g. Body Scan, Sitting, Walking, Eating, and Gentle Yoga/Body Movement)
• 30-40 minutes of daily home meditation practice supported by resource materials
• a supportive community with future mindfulness events throughout the year

ORIENTATION will be held on Monday January 22/18 (6 PM – 830 PM) and is a requirement to register in the 8-week MBSR program. Orientation provides attendees with additional information, the opportunity to experience a mindfulness exercise in a group setting, and helps participants determine if this program is suitable to meet their needs. There is no cost to attend the Orientation Session.

REGISTRATION
$475.00 – includes 30 hours of instruction, practice recordings, written instruction, and a certificate of completion.
Payment is accepted by cash, cheque or e-transfer.
Payment is due Monday January 22, 2018 following the Orientation Session.
Some private health plans provide coverage for stress management. Please check with your insurer to determine if funding is available to you.
Our goal is to the make the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program available to those who can benefit. Alternative payment options may be considered. For more information, please contact us directly.

TEACHERS
Gary Petingola and Sheila Damore-Petingola are Masters prepared Social Workers and are qualified to teach Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction through the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Gary has received formal training with Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn, founder of the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society; the Centre for Mindfulness Ireland; the OMEGA Institute for Holistic Studies; Shambhala Mountain Center; The Community for Mindful Living; and the Harvard Medical School. He is invited to speak internationally and has published on the topic of mindfulness. Sheila brings a wealth of knowledge on care for the caregiver. She has received training through the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care and Society, University of Massachusetts Medical School; the Centre for Mindfulness Ireland; the OMEGA Institute for Holistic Studies; Shambhala Mountain Center; The Community for Mindful Living; and the Harvard Medical School. Sheila holds a faculty appointment with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine.
