Fashion 101: Four Ways to Wear Pantone’s Colours of 2016

Fashion 101: Four Ways to Wear Pantone’s Colours of 2016

Every year, Pantone releases a “colour of the year”, which will heavily influence design and product construction for the upcoming months…especially in the fashion world. This year, Pantone decided to release TWO colours for 2016; a first for the company! Their names are Rose Quartz and Serenity, a pastel pink and dusty blue.

 Why These Colours?

Not only do these colours evoke a sense of calm and relaxation, they also have a deeper meaning behind them. According to Pantone, “We are experiencing a gender blur as it relates to fashion, which has in turn impacted color trends throughout all other areas of design…this approach to color is coinciding with societal movements toward gender equality and fluidity.”

Gender equality and fashion. All at once. HOW COOL IS THAT.

These colours have been all over the spring runways, and are already making their way into the collections of many brands (take Joe Fresh’s spring line, for example). Below are some of our own ideas for incorporating Rose Quartz and Serenity into your 2016 wardrobe!

#1

Keep it Simple

After raiding my closet, I realized that I had a lot more Rose Quartz than I originally thought! Here, it is so easy to pair a simple top with jeans and statement shoes. One of my new years resolutions is to wear more colour (we’ll see how long I can keep that up), and this is such an easy way to slowly introduce it into your wardrobe. The best part about an outfit like this is that it can be worn throughout each season.

#2

Cozy and Colourful

Winter wardrobes tend to consist of darker hues; all the more reason to change it up and inject some colour into these dull and gloomy months! Try pairing pastel pants with a bold overcoat. Then, grab your fave pair of wellies a cozy hat, and some lip balm; an essential during the harsh winter, and you’re good to go!

#3

Embrace Trends (and Menswear)

I love leopard, I love blazers, I love oxfords, and I love menswear. Throw it all together and this is what you get! Pair a light blue blouse with a structured blazer for a really unique look. An alternate idea would be to swap the blazer for a slouchy cardigan.

#4

Go Big or Go Home

Pantone released these two colours together because they blend and mesh so seamlessly. Do not be afraid to mix & match and try em’ out at the same time! I know that they look like they are meant for spring and summer, but like I said before, let’s put some more colour into winter!
