Fashion, Music, Spotlight: The Kaleidoscopian

You may remember Yvonne Ben as the creative mind behind the WUSC A Walk for Syria Fashion show at Laurenatin University. What you may not know, is that she is also the creator of the Kaleidoscopian, an online promotional platform that focuses on local art, music, fashion, and events. We got the details on Yvonne’s incredible site here!

For our readers who are new to the Kaleidoscopian, can you tell us about the blog?

The Kaleidoscopian is a promotional based platform that showcases events, fashion, music and spotlight in Canada and worldwide.

What inspired you to make a promotional platform for local events, fashion, and music?

It was more about growth than inspiration. When I started thekaleidoscopian.com, I dabbled around with writing and photography, and after a while I started doing OOTD (Outfit of the day) posts featuring my African print clothes. It was called thekaleidoscope.wordpress.com for the longest time and as things progressed and I started promoting African fashion designers, fashion designers, events, interviews on startup brands, business, street style (Sudbury street style and street style special) etc.

How did you become interested in promotion?

With time, I attained a large audience and thought it will be a great idea to provide my viewers with a lot more content, such as international businesses in Sudbury. Like the African store, when it opened, the Caribbean restaurant, lots of fashion and style related content like Sudbury Street Style which now has its own website sudburystreetstyle.com, and various fashion designers.

What kinds of events and content do you cover and promote?

I promote and cover any event related to the arts! Art shows, Fashion shows, Concerts, Dance, etc. I also promote events held by student associations.

We have to ask, where did the inspiration for the name “Kaleidoscopian” come from?

Okay, funny story, I got inspired by my African print outfits. African prints (see here), have lots of colors and different patterns and if you look into a Kaleidoscope (see here) you also see lots of colors and patterns. So My blog is The Kaleidoscope, and I’m The Kaleidoscopian!

You also post a lot of personal fashion blog posts, showcasing pieces from many incredible African designers. How did you become interested in fashion?

I actually can’t remember. I think I’ve been interested in fashion from time. I used to blog about my African print outfits when I first started The K (short form for the Kaleidoscopian). With time, I found out about incredible African fashion designers in Canada and I connected with them!
