HEATHER TOPP: LIVID HERE | LIVIDE ICI

“She is an important feminist artist and educator, a significant inspiration for other artists both as a senior artist and as a community builder,” says Demetra Christakos, Director.  That’s right!  Sudbury’s artist Heather Topp is currently showcasing her Livid Here exhibition at the Art Gallery of Sudbury until July 9th, 2017.  This exhibition incorporates papier-mâché figures, handbuilt ceramic sculpture in stoneware, paintings and drawings.

Topp has presented 15 solo exhibitions and participated in more than 65 exhibitions since locating to Sudbury.  Topp has been creating art for more than 50 years and each exposition assembled seeks to create a dialogue with the viewer.  “My art is a conversation, always changing and contradicting, evolving tensions,” says the artist.  This retrospective exhibition creates a communication on the challenges on the social and political landscape of the community we live in.

Topp has been awarded six grants from the Ontario Arts Council in addition to being the first woman and the first visual artist to be recognized with Northern Lights Festival Boreal’s Jackie Washington Award for outstanding artistic contribution.  She was the recipient of the Award of Excellence at the Mayor’s Celebration of Arts (Greater Sudbury) in 2014.  Needless to say, this exhibition is a must see reflection of the past created through art that the Art Gallery of Sudbury is privileged to present.  Open until July 9th!

The Art Gallery of Sudbury is located at 251 John Street.  The Gallery is open Tuesday – Saturday from 10am to 5pm, and Sunday from 12pm to 5pm.  For more information, please visit the gallery online at www.artsudbury.org, or call 705-675-4871.

Isabelle Roy is an HK student at Laurentian University, fueled by coffee and sarcasm with an absurd love for Ben Howard. If she isn’t found belting out karaoke, you can assume she is drinking good wine with her dog. The only thing she loves more than chili cheese fries from Tucos is Miles Teller.
