KEEP YOUR HOCKEY DREAMS ALIVE THIS SPRING!

The Maple Leafs are in the playoffs, the Dart Guy became a thing, the Wolves got a major rebranding and have had an action packed season – let’s face it, it’s a great time to be a hockey fan in Sudbury! In comes Sudbury Theatre Centre’s latest production in collaboration with YES Theatre, Hockey Dreams! Opening April 20th to May 7th this play is a coming of age story all set against the backdrop of the arenas and skating ponds you rink rats called home. Tickets are available for $27.50 online now, get yours early – this heartwarming show might make you want to go for a hat trick.

Partnering for the very first time STC and YES Theatre take us back in time to the 1960’s in a small Canadian town. Centering the story around two young boys who want nothing more than to play in the NHL, Stafford’s body can’t keep up while Michael can’t afford to play. Canadians everywhere will identify with the struggles our young characters face, the disappointment of reality when it comes to the things you once loved, and letting go of childhood dreams. With characters spanning the spectrum from fiercely loyal friends to pesky antagonists the culminating faceoff on the neighbourhood rink will have you eager for a dart!  Joining the young talent on stage will be the Artistic Directors of both theatre companies – Caleb Marshall of STC and Alessandro Costantini of YES Theatre. This production is something of a reunion for both artistic directors and Costantini performed in the original production of Hockey Dreams under the direction of Marshall a few years ago. With a set designed by Patrick Clark and Simon Rossiter you’ll be transported to neighbourhood streets, childhood bedrooms and skating rinks with synthetic ice to really make you feel like you’re right in the action!

This cast is chalk-full of amazing young talen! The local cast tackling mature issues with expertize include:  Eric Belanger, Colton Gobbo, Deiter Lische-Parkes, Lucas Gabriel Mullaly, Nathan Scruton, Tristan Thompson, and Katie Wise. “Many of the young performers will be making their professional debut in this production. We are thrilled to be able to offer community members the chance to work on a professional stage with such a meaningful production as Hockey Dreams,” said Costantini.

Join STC and YES Theatre in celebrating everything great about the good ol’ hockey game with Hockey Dreams! Running April 20th – May 7th at Sudbury Theatre Centre Tuesday – Saturday @ 7:30PM and Sundays @2PM.
