Local Muay Thai Gym Owner Represented Canada in the WAKO Pan-Am Games

Scott Bartlett a local Mauy Thai gym owner represented Canada and Sudbury Martial Arts at the 9th annual WAKO Pan-Am games in Cancun Mexico. After a successful night at Northern Fights 2 at the Caruso Club, Scott himself and his two fighters took home the sweeping victory for Melbrook Martial Arts Academy. This was an amazing display of Scott’s high level skill, but this was a warm up.October 26th to 29th Scott represented Canada in the World Organization of Kickboxing Associations 9th annual Pan-am games! He and several Canadian fighters met in Cancun Mexico to show case what Canada has to offer in kickboxing. He competed in the 91 kilo weight category.

Prior to the fight, Scott had been training rigorously, traveling to southern Ontario to compete for a spot on the team and since landing a spot he has been training daily. Meeting with team Canada down south multiple times to prepare and spar to ensure he’s successful in the fights.

The tournament involves 17 countries meeting to showcase their fighters all competing to take home the victory. WAKO states this was the largest event they have hosted – hosting over 700+ athletes. Some of these athletes have moved and are a qualifier for IWGA (international world games association) next year in Poland.

Scott fought a very tough Brazilian heavyweight and was narrowly outpointed in a split-decision after several back and forth rounds. Scott was cheered on by his family, friends and students both here in Sudbury and across Canada. Scott is currently training for a fight in December and has been invited to the World Games as well.
