New Cup In Town: Kuppajo Espresso Bar

New Cup In Town: Kuppajo Espresso Bar

We love a good cup of coffee so we were so excited to welcome a new coffee shop to town earlier this year! Kuppajo Espresso Bar opened in February and after our first coconut latte, we were hooked. They offer a healthy menu, delicious coffee and their walls are covered with beautiful local art. We spoke with Jasmine Serré to get all the details about our new favourite spot!

What is the story behind Kuppajoe? When did you open?

We have always wanted to start a project together as a family. We thought it would be nice to work together. Each of us put our talents to good use and tried to create a place we could be proud of. My dad, Dan, did most of the work you will see in the cafe; he added all of the beautiful barn board work, painting, the bar and he even handcrafted some of the beautiful tables and benches. Our first day open was February 9, 2016- we remember it so clearly because we spent that whole weekend working all day and most of the night. The night before the grand opening, we were all at the building until 3 am, and my mom was the last to leave around 5am when we had to be back for 6:30am in time for our first day open – exhausting, but so worth it!

The most ordered item on your menu?

The most ordered item on our menu out of the sandwiches would have to be the Chicken Time or the Chick-wich – people seem to love it! My personal favourite is the Chicken Time. We are also known for our delicious Coconut Latte and our newly introduced summer drink, Kuppajo Iced Coffee – highly recommended!

There is some amazing art from local artists hanging on your walls – how can other local artists get their art hung inside Kuppajoe?

We do have a lot of beautiful local art hanging around the Espresso Bar – we feel so privileged to have our walls beautified with local talent. We thought it would be a great way for local artists to have their talent on display. When local artists are interested in hanging pieces, they can contact us on Instagram @kuppajoespressobar or email us at kuppajoespressobar@gmail.com. Our new website is currently under construction, however, it should be up and running within the next month.

We noticed you had some live music a few weeks ago, can we expect to see more? If so – any upcoming events we can share with our readers?

We plan to have several different types of entertainment at the Espresso Bar. We had our first live show, Sex and Summer, a few weeks ago – it was awesome! We definitely want to have more live music. We also had a couple of local ladies come in and sell all natural homemade beauty products during the day on a Friday. We plan to introduce different types of entertainment, possibly with our local artists, and of course some more live music!

Future plans for Kuppajoe?

We plan to introduce more items to our menu. We want to conserve our healthy, simple and quick menu, however we want to add a few more items. We will also be introducing seasonal drinks and we also plan on applying for a liquor license to sell local beer and wine. We have also been getting more and more involved with the downtown core. We are currently collecting all of our coffee grains to use as a compost in the community garden downtown.
