A MAGAZINE ABOUT ANYONE – REALLY ANYONE!

A MAGAZINE ABOUT ANYONE – REALLY ANYONE!

A magazine about anyone, it’s something of a Seinfeld-esque concept but this is just what the new Anyone Zine is all about. A publication to showcase the unique stories Sudbury and its people have to tell, written by anyone, about anyone. The brainchild of collaborative workspace Anywhere Creator Space the zine has been popping up all over the city and creating an excited buzz in its path. We got in touch with Ella Myers to answer all your burning questions about this latest Sudbury publication.

Tell us more about Anyone Zine?

Anyone Zine is a product of the Anywhere Creator Space and came about over the winter. We have two editors, a designer and a crew of skilled artists and writers who contributed pieces for the first issue. Our aim is to support local endeavors, entrepreneurs, creators and culture. The scope of the project is broad, as is art! We want to include stories about visual art, abstract art, food, music, literature, and those are just a few topics. We also want to help Sudburians continue to discover the city. Our content is not limited to downtown and we hope to see stories that engage with all of the different neighbourhoods and nooks in this city that make it so unique. We also want to grow our base of contributors and encourage anyone to submit, we welcome subjects and voices that might not typically receive a whole lot of coverage and offer a unique and valuable perspective.

What inspired the idea for Anyone Zine?

Anyone was born out of a whole lot of brainstorming about potential platforms for creators, thinkers and artists to share their perspectives and stories. We realised a lot of people could use an outlet to talk about their work or what was going on in the city. We hope it creates a dialogue in the city!

What exactly is a zine?

A zine is typically a small circulation, self published collection of writing and art. They come in all different forms, and can vary hugely. Zine is a short form of “fanzine” or “magazine” and we hope people see Anyone as a baby-magazine, who is excited to grow up one day!

The point of this zine being small is that we feel Sudbury lacks a proper art and culture magazine, such as a NOW magazine, or a Walleye for the North. These magazines are packed with great events, new food, etc. We feel that the act of beginning anywhere is a good place to start – so we’re starting with a one pager. In a few years time, we might fill a lot more pages with a lot more rich local content, but for now, we’re just getting started.

Where can we get a copy of issue 1, when will issue 2 be available?

If you haven’t been, I recommend you pick up a copy at the Anywhere Creator Space on Lorne Street, right next to the old brewery. It’s where a lot of the creative minds behind the project do their work, and you can find out info on how to be a part of it and take a little look around.
