PLAYSMELTER BRINGS POP-UP THEATRE TO SUDBURY

How often do you get a chance to be the very first audience for a brand new piece of theatre? Not very often but this weekend PlaySmelter, Sudbury’s very own festival of new theatre creation, will give you the chance twice! Presented in association with Wordstock Sudbury Literary Festival this collaboration will offer two local playrights, Matthew Heiti and Lara Bradley and chance to workshop their latest pieces for a live audience. Performances will be November 4th and 5th at Sudbury Secondary School’s Sheridan Auditorium. If that’s not enough action for you Saturday night will also have a special dance demonstration “Liquid Lead Dancing” from Trevor Copp and Jeff Fox who were recently featured in TedX talk Montreal. Find out more about the works being presented below and get out and see something new this weekend!

The Mourning Show by Matthew Heiti // November 4, 5:00pm

World premiere workshop presentation of award-winning Sudbury writer Matthew Heiti’s newest play, “TheMourning Show”. For 25 years, Harry Znero has hosted the morning radio show, Grief & Pancakes, travelling from one small town to another. Tonight’s his last show, and nobody goes home alive.

Blind Nickel Pig by Lara Bradley // November 5, 7:30pm

Workshop presentation of local playwright Lara Bradley’s “Blind Nickel Pig”, a rollicking tale of times past and the people who lived in Sudbury a hundred years ago. Bradley brings to life a heart-warming and hilarious cast of characters: The sisters Flyberry: Annie and Frannie, Fast Willie Dorland, barfly Pickles and songstress Miss Mabel-Lynn – to name just a few.

Liquid Lead Dancing with Trevor Copp and Jeff Fox // November 5, 10:00pm

Fresh from their TedX Talk in Montreal, International Latin and Salsa Champions Trevor Copp and Jeff Fox will present this very special late-night evening of dance as they demonstrate “Liquid Lead Dancing.” A technique created by Copp and Fox, Liquid Lead breaks gender roles and challenges the notion that the man always leads and the woman always follows. Provocative and inspiring, Copp and Fox were recently featured on TED Talks. (www.ted.com)
