Rise 2017-Design and Visual Arts Grad Show

Last week we had the opportunity to check out Rise 2017-Design and Visual Arts Grad Show hosted by Cambrian College students, and it’s safe to say we were blown away by the amount of artistic and creative talented that filled the room!

The exhibit was held on Thursday, April 20th, from 6-9pm at Cambrian College’s downtown Open Studio, located at 93 Cedar Street in Unit 303. The Open Studio’s large gallery space allows students to have the opportunity to mount their exhibitions, work alongside professional artists in the community, and also offers students real world experience.

From the moment that we walked into the exhibit, it was clear we didn’t know where to begin first! So many different creations hung on the walls of The Open Studio, catching your eye and drawing you in. There was everything from self-portraits to landscapes, and some that were even created using spray paint! The room was buzzing with students, artists, and art lovers, all taking in the complexity and imaginative elements that were components in creating these pieces.

Opening remarks began at 7 and everyone gathered around to listen to the evenings speaker, wine and beers in hand! Yes, that’s right, snacks and refreshments were available to all who attended and you better believe that we took part-everyone knows that wine and art go hand in hand right?

The Design and Visual Art’s graduates from Cambrian College whose work was showcased in the Rise 2017 exhibit consisted of Curtis Brownell, Haley Cassio, Lucien Chevrier, Sterling Hall, Thomas Kant, Lauren Oliver, and Laura Swanson, all of whom should be incredible proud of the hard work and creative spirit that they put forth in assembling this showcase.

It was truly something to be seen!
