Spotify Playlist: College Survival Kit

Oh lordy, it’s here. Somehow summer is already over and the school year is right up in your face. Whether you’re a freshman or not, college is a total rollercoaster. Don’t you worry though, I’ve always got your back and this month I have a survival kit of all the songs you need to get through the carnage.

The Greatest Man That Ever Lived (Variations on a Shaker Hymn) – Weezer

Everybody feels insecure sometimes and I’ve got the definition of a pick me up right here. It’s impossible to listen to this song without getting your strut on and watching your ego inflate and fly away like a balloon filled with helium.

Teach Me Tonight – She & Him

For when you walk into class and come to truly understand the meaning of Dilf/Milf and seriously consider becoming a statistic.

Asshole Pandemic – Pkew Pkew Pkew

Living with roommates sucks sometimes. This song is about that. If you’re not into confrontation, feel free to passive aggressively blare this song and let lyrics such as “Why’s this fuckin’ dick gotta be such a cock?” get the message across for you.

Loosens – Sloan

I’m sorry to be the barer of bad news, but eventually your beer pong romances may end. Even though you’re in school working towards the rest of your life, no one actually knows what’s going on or what they want right now. This usually results in a ton of hook-ups and attempts at relationships that don’t always work out. So, keep this song and the entire Los Campesinos discography handy in case of heartbreak.

Can’t Win – Pup

Oh god, you’re 5 hours in to staring blankly at a word document, you’ve failed a test, or maybe you’ve even failed a class. That’s usually when you realize that your dreams may not actually come true and you have to find a way to be okay with that, but it’s so scary that you just want to curl into the fetal position and soil your panties. The tone of this song is way more upbeat than you probably feel, but it’s super therapeutic to sing along to.

Heads High, Feet Firm – Search Party Animal (Formally called ‘Bagels’)

Listen to this after you’ve taken a hot minute to deal with the reality that your life may not go as planned. You’re still young and have your entire life ahead of you and all of that other motivational bullshit etc. So let’s stop having a mental breakdown, listen to this song, and then just giv’r.

The Start of Something – Voxtrot

For when your beer goggles meet their beer goggles across the table you’re both playing slap cup on and you end up cuddled up on a damp carpet slurring sweet whatever’s into each other’s ears.

I’m Waiting For The Man – The Velvet Underground & Nico

You know, for when you go to buy some nice plants to spice up your space.

Somebody Else – The 1975

One night you’re gonna be at a party and you’re gonna be stealing someone else’s beer. When you look up to see if anyone has caught you, you’re gonna see the person you’ve been Facebook stalking nightly hoovering the neck of some dude that crushes beer cans against his forehead. Listen to this song and gently cry/jam out.

With You – Tennyson

Because occasionally you do need to sit down and study.

Stoked & Broke – Fidlar

For when your studious attitude inevitable leans more toward the “fuck it” side of things and all you want to do is smash bottles and bodies. You could really just use Fidlar’s entire S/T album as your pre-drinking soundtrack (…which is what I did for the entirety of first year).

200x – Johnny Foreigner

This song is for those lonely post-party walks home late at night, or early in the morning (you do you).

Eat Shit (We Did It) – Born Ruffians

For when you finally graduate and give all the shitty ex-lovers, teachers, and jerk offs of the world the ol’ friendly finger.
