SUDBURY STORYTELLERS WITH GSPL: ANN PAQUETTE

9With many writers in the Sudbury area we wanted to start a feature to highlight some of them to bring their work to a broader audience. At the Greater Sudbury Public Library we come across some of these writers on a regular basis and are continuously introduced to new writers and new books to add to our shelves. Are you a local writer? Let us know and we can feature you in an upcoming month, shoot us an email at Jessica.watts@greatersudbury.ca!

Who are you and how long have you been writing?

My name is Ann Paquette, I live in Sudbury with my spouse and newborn. I’m a newly self-published author who loves to read, draw, take photos, and train Muay Thai at Melbrook Martial Arts. I began writing this novel about three years ago shortly after a major operation. Honestly, I was inspired by a movie called Strange Magic. This might seem odd, an adult novel inspired by a story written and animated for children, but if one refuses experiences, even those as small as watching a movie, one might miss out on the greatest of inspirations.

What is your book called and where can people get it?

This is the first book in a Shadows of Sylvara series and it is titled The Paths of Greythorn. It can be purchased as an eBook through most major retailers, like Kobo and Kindle. A hard copy can also be purchased through Amazon.com through their print-on-demand option. There are also three copies of available to read at the Greater Sudbury Public Library.  (https://goo.gl/ypb9Pp

How would you describe your book?

Anyone who enjoys epic fantasy will enjoy this series. This book has a strong female protagonist with a smart-alec sense of humor who is propelled into a new world to save its inhabitants, the fairies of Greythorn, from an uncertain future. It’s an adventure with a bit of darkness and a dash of romance thrown in for good measure. I believe that Daystorm, the main character, is a great example of a strong female lead who isn’t afraid to be herself and dive into the unknown with nothing more than dreams to guide her. Essentially, it’s a book for those who want to find out what happens when creatures of light embrace the shadows and one woman’s quest to change their destinies.

Where can people find you online?

Jessica Watts is the Coordinator of Outreach, Programs and Partnerships at the Greater Sudbury Public Library. Her job usually involves the parts of the public library that people don't associate with libraries like snowshoes, theatre passes and special events. She loves talking about books, especially over a caramel latte at Salute, and is always in the middle of reading 2 or 3 books at a time.. or, more honestly, 4 or 5!
