Sudbury Theatre Centre 2017-18 Season

Nostalgia, Awe, +Laughter-why yes, these are three of our favourite sentiments, but that’s not what we’re here to discuss! After wrapping up their 45th anniversary season, the Sudbury Theatre Centre is looking forward to a season that will “induce laughter, tug at your heart strings, and have you reminiscing over the good old days”. Nostalgia, Awe, +Laughter, a celebration of entertainment from decades’ past, is the theme for the STC’s new 2017|2018 season and it’s sure to be spectacular!

“The new season is a chance for patrons to relive and reconnect with many stories and characters they’ve grown to love,” said Caleb Marshall, Artistic Executive Director of STC.

There are 13 productions this year from the Mainstage Theatre, Young Audience, and Performing Arts series; featuring a range from some wonderful Canadian comedians to a fantastic Broadway musical, this season is incorporating music, comedy, drama, dance, and spectacle, and there’s sure to be something for everyone!

Kicking off the season with ‘Million Dollar Quartet’, a musical featuring the powerhouse performances of Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins, and ending with ‘Suddenly Mommy’, a comical one-woman show that takes you through the rollercoaster of motherhood, the STC is prepared to offer their audiences an exciting, diverse, and well-rounded season. There will also be holiday, Valentine’s, and Mother’s Day tie ins this season, with a very special Remembrance Day add on, Jake’s Gift, from the Mainstage Theatre Series.

“With the upgrades to our space, our new accessible initiatives, expanded diverse programming and local partnerships-I hope everyone in Sudbury from all walks of life feel welcome ‘to just be’ at STC,” said Marshall.

The STC is continuing to grow, both on and off the stage, and we couldn’t more thrilled for their timeless progress. Their dedicated mission is to “create extraordinary theatre, celebrate our norther artists, provide outstanding training, present Canadas leading artists, and provide patrons with the best patron experience possible”.

Their Pay What You Can Relaxed Performances are available to everyone who wishes to attend, but are designed for those who may find the usual theatre atmosphere slightly challenging. This experience provides “a calmer attitude to noise and movement in the audience and some minor changes made to the light and sound effects of the production”. This will be offered on the second Saturday of the Mainstage Theatre Series and is a great way to enjoy an afternoon.

For all you die hard theatre fans here in Sudbury, register before June 15th with your myPicks subscription and tailor your STC experience to what works best for you! Save 10, 15, and even 20% on ticket prices by handpicking 4,5, or 6 season selections.
