THE WOODLAND SISTERS WANT TO CHANGE YOUR WAY OF THINKING

Woodland Sisters

Two sisters united by environmentalism, feminism and maybe a bit of craft glue. Caitlin and Cassidy Mcauliffe call the outlying of Whitefish home, and perhaps it’s living with the best of nature literally in their backyard that made them so passionate about it. Teaming up as the Woodland Sisters the Mcauliffe’s have set out to use their joint passion art to impact social change and conversation about the environment. Their current project the Woodland Notepad is an eco-conscious paper product with hand printed covers that give that special touch. These girls might just been your next #FeministCrushFriday!

Tell us more about the Woodland Sisters?

The Woodland Sisters

We are two sisters from Northern Ontario who are feminists and environmentalists and who also happen to be Artists. We are inspired to make environmental and social change using storytelling, humour, illustrations and by making things.

Our current project is the Woodland Notepad, an eco-conscious paper product that hopes to shift consumerist thinking by offering a scratch pad made from pre-recycled paper.

Tell us how your experience has been as two sisters starting a new business together? What inspired you to take this plunge together?

Our experience as two sisters starting this business together hasn’t been anything new considering we have taken on many co-ventures; whether it be from selling our herbal teas at the local market, tree planting or aspiring to become minimalists.

Inspired by creating social and environmental change and mobilized by drinking pots of coffee, we decided to take the plunge after attending IMPACT! Youth Sustainability Leadership Training. This is where we narrowed our project ideas to make the Woodland Notepad, an ongoing, messy but always exciting endeavour.

What projects have the Woodland Sisters worked on? What work can we look forward to seeing?

Presently, we are working on the Woodland Notepad, an eco-conscious product made of pre-recycled paper with hand printed covers. We are excited to make something for others to express themselves, whether it be forest notes, field notes, scratches or scribbles.

We will be selling the Woodland Notepads at Makers Markets and hope to partner with local businesses and suppliers interested in selling them.

In the past, we have contributed illustrations to Sudbury in a Box, Anyone Magazine and sold prints at Rethink Green’s Earth Day Festival. We recently had a painting exploring the theme of walking at The Elemental Festival on Manitoulin Island and held a small gallery at the 4Elements Living Art’s studio in Kagawong. We are looking forward to more partnerships and opportunities to collaborate and show our nature inspired work.

Some have said that the Big Dripper from Sub City is a regional delicacy and the perfect end to a Sudbury Saturday Night – Jessica is definitely one of those people. No, the hair is not a perm.
