Its big anniversary for Playsmelter! Celebrating their fifth year the folks at Sudbury’s own new work theatre festival have worked hard to compile a roster of original plays to prove once again that theatre is not dead in the North. Two staged productions and first readings of three new scripts by Northern Ontario writers, this is sure to be a jam packed week! Making its world premiere will be Lara Bradley’s Blind Nickel Pig, and in its first Sudbury presentation Receiver of Wreck by Matthew Heiti. For two days only you will be able to check out Rick Miller’s BOOM at the Sudbury Theatre Centre. This show has been selling out across the country and features a mind-blowing multimedia tribute to the Baby Boom era. PLAYSMELTER BRINGS POP-UP THEATRE TO SUDBURY

How often do you get a chance to be the very first audience for a brand new piece of theatre? Not very often but this weekend PlaySmelter, Sudbury’s very own festival of new theatre creation, will give you the chance twice! Clown around with Les Bunheads & Friends

At some point or another every kid has dreamed of running away from home to join the circus. That’s exactly what Sudbury native Janie Pinard did….or more accurately went to clown college but kind of the same thing!
