Willing to Fail

I know you’re going to find this hard to believe but when I was 2 years old I was riding a bike without training wheels. I don’t remember any of this, but the way my mom tells the story is that I would run beside the bike and when it picked up an appropriate amount of speed I would jump on the seat and cruise around the mean street I grew up on. Actually it was a crescent, Chestnut Crescent to be precise. I promise I’m not taking this opportunity (just) to brag, although I do think it’s pretty......

Northern Axperts bring axe-citing new sport to Sudbury.

Calling all Lumberjacks and Lumberjills, Sudbury finally has the perfect place for axe-wielding, plaid-adorning fun. Northern Axperts officially opened last Thursday, March 2nd in the back of Peddler’s Pub on Cedar St. downtown. The new game brings an exciting edge to entertainment in Sudbury. The sport is kind of like darts but more “bad-axe”. Essentially, you grab onto an axe, throw it straight ahead and hopefully end with a successful thud into the boards lined with targets. When playing the game in competition each hit will allow you points. Games consist of five throws in a game and three......

STEDMAN GRAHAM: AN UNSUNG FEMINIST HERO

I’m going to make a radical statement here: Stedman Graham is a feminist hero. First of all you’re probably wondering who this Stedman guy is, just the partner to one of the most powerful women alive – Oprah Winfrey. But a man, a feminist? That’s right feminism is a one size fits all term and maybe the only club you can get into with just one question: Do you believe all people should be treated equally? Congratulations, you’re in! But let’s not loose sight of the man of the hour. As any boss lady knows it can be tough......

OUR #WCW FOR INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

Who run the world? Girls! Women, today is your day! It’s been a tough year, paying witness to world events and specifically the 2016 presidential election – its pretty clear we have a long way to go correcting some peoples way of thinking. And although we could have hoped for a better turn out on that one what we can say for sure is the process really shone a light on some of the backwards views the world has about women and really called a gender into action. But this isn’t a day to get down about the inequalities......

How to be a traveler not a tourist

With both reading week for postsecondary students and March break for high school students coming up, many people will be flocking to the airports and heading off on new adventures! As someone who will be remaining in Sudbury for this break, I’d like to impart some wisdom I’ve learned and gathered to make the most out of a new destination. There is no one way to experience the world, but there are ways that you can make the most of the little pieces that you are lucky enough to see. A tourist will: Stick to their group they traveled with......

Health Food Store Shopping List: Be Greater Organics

If you haven’t yet checked out Be Greater Organics, the latest health food store in Sudbury, I highly recommend you do.  They are not your typical health food store in our city, the layout is trendy and clean, but the items they offer are definitely unique.  The difference between this store and some of the others is the products they have brought in from all over Ontario, mainly food products focusing on allergy-friendly ingredients. Here is my must buy items from Be Greater Organics: Thornbury Bakery Bread: If you have never tried this brand of bread, it is pretty......

Sudbury Wolves Recap: Tough stretch at Home.

The Wolfpack had a frustrating home game doubleheader on Friday the 17th and Sunday the 19th. The Wolves faced off with both the North Bay Battalion (3-2), and Niagara Icedogs (5-4).  North Bay sits at 8th in the Eastern conference two spots behind the Wolves, and Niagara sits one position behind them at 7th.  A playoff berth is still in sight for Sudbury at 6th. Both games were very hotly contested and had the crowds on the edge of their seats in excitement. But this pair of matchups would not go their way, despite valiant efforts.  Strong performances were......

4 Warm and Healthy Winter Drinks

Although it is unseasonably warm this weekend, it’s always a good idea to boost your immune system in the winter months. Here are four drink recipes to keep you warm and healthy this winter! Bullet proof coffee How this craze hasn’t made it into more places in Sudbury astounds me, but nevertheless here’s my favourite. You can make your own in three simple steps: Brew Coffee. Add 1tbsp ghee butter and 1 tbsp coconut oil or MCT oil. Blend along with a low glycemic (healthy) sweetener such as monk fruit or stevia.  This drink has taken the world by storm. It’s replacing......
