CATCH TRICKSTER AT CINÉFEST

Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival’s 32nd edition is well underway, bringing Canadian and International film center stage right here at home. This year things are a little different as they move to a COVID friendly model with virtual screenings. Stay in your comfort zone and take in all the movie magic you can handle! One very exciting project Cinéfest has been able to bring to your screen for your viewing pleasure is a sneak peek at the first two episodes of the upcoming CBC series Trickster. Based on the acclaimed Trickster trilogy by Indigenous author Eden Robinson. The heavily anticipated series will be making its debut on CBC later this fall and has already been getting great reviews from TIFF.

Jared (played by newcomer Joel Oulette), an Indigenous teen struggling to keep his dysfunctional family above water, holding down an after-school job and selling ecstasy to support his partying mom, Maggie (Crystle Lightning), who self-medicates an undiagnosed mental illness, and his unemployable dad, Phil (Craig Lauzon) and his new girlfriend. But when Jared starts seeing strange things — talking ravens, doppelgängers, skin monsters— his already chaotic life is turned upside down. Additional cast includes Kalani Queypo (Jamestown), Anna Lambe (The Grizzlies), Joel Thomas Hynes (Little Dog), Gail Maurice (Cardinal), and Georgina Lightning (Blackstone).

Cinéfest will be screening the first two episodes of Trickster in-theatre on Thursday, September 24th at 7 PM or virtually September 24th – 27th. The screening will also be followed by a discussion period with series director Michelle Latimer. Get in on the most flexible festival experience you’ve ever seen with Cinéfest this season! The festival runs September 19th – 27th with Canadian and International films you can’t see anywhere else, just $10 unlocks your screen to a virtual world of your choice. Enjoy the festival safe and sound from your comfort zone!
