Dinner & Show with Georgian Bay

May 24, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 10:30 pm

$55

This bilingual group fearlessly fuses elements of electronic, jazz and chamber music with their folk roots. They found critical acclaim with a 2016 Polaris Prize nomination for their sophomore album, Patience.
The core of Georgian Bay is the duo of Kelly Lefaive and Joëlle Westman. The two met in 2008 while studying jazz performance at the University of Toronto (Kelly was studying violin and Joëlle was studying voice). They were placed in a small musical ensemble together and developed a lasting friendship. After graduation their collaboration led to the formation of Georgian Bay in 2013.
For a very long time Joëlle, born in Marseilles, France, but raised in Teed, Ontario in an English-speaking household, felt hemmed in by the English language as lyricist. When Joëlle joined forces with Kelly, the opportunity to reconnect with the French language became a reality. It burst open a whole new realm of possibilities in songwriting. For Kelly, having grown up in the bilingual community of Penetanguishene, composing in both English and French has always been an integral and essential part of her artistic expression.
After their first album, Horizons, got them appearances on such stages as the Mariposa Folk Festival and Le Palace de Granby Theatre, they have been extensively touring Central and Eastern Canada since 2014. They recently were featured at the 45th Franco-Ontarion festival, La Nuit sur létang.
Their appearance at the Motley Kitchen is part of the release tour for the Volume 1 of Georgian Bay’s third studio album, Courage, which explores the themes evoked by the title in two volumes: Soleil (May 2018) and Moon (October 2018).
Dinner and entertainment combined is $55.00 including HST. Show-only seats are $20.00 each. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. with the buffet dinner served at 6:30 p.m. and the show approximately from 7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Reserve now to assure good seats and dinner by calling 705-222-6685.
