Queer Art-Making in a Mining Town: Call for Submissions

Call for Submissions: Queer Art-Making in a Mining Town presented in collaboration with the Fifth Biennial Rainbow Health Ontario Conference: Because LGBTQ2S Health Matters
March 22 – 24, 2018 at Open Studio | Cambrian College
Opening reception with short panel discussion: Thurs, March 22, 7 pm

Take part in ‘Queer Art-Making in a Mining Town’, a non-juried art exhibition taking place the week of March 19th, 2018 at Cambrian College’s Open Studio. This exhibition coincides with Rainbow Health’s Ontario provincial conference, which will be held in Sudbury from March 21 – March 24, 2018. Queer Art-Making in a Mining Town will highlight artists in the LGBTQ+ community and/or work and/or have the theme of LGBTQ+ people in Northern Ontario. We are particularly interested in welcoming art produced by queer, non-white artists. Due to limited space, we may not be able to accept all work, however we will do our best to accommodate all submissions.

Accepted media for exhibition: all 2D media (painting, drawing, photography, mixed-media, printmaking, etc.), 3D sculpture, performance, spoken word, installation (please include required space); digital projection (to be screened on an overhead screen or an iMac computer). If you are unsure about your media, feel free to get in touch with us.

We’d like to preview your submission before installation in order to make proper exhibition arrangements. Please include a short application of up to 3 artworks by email*. Please your full contact information, artwork title, media, dimensions, and a short description about the work. You can submit:

Images (up to 2MB each)
Video (up to 250MB each)
Audio (up to 30MB each)
PDFs (up to 5MB each)
3D Models
External media from YouTube, Vimeo or SoundCloud
Physical artwork preview: please contact Leesa Bringas to make arrangements

Once confirmed, please note all works must be ready to hang/install. We may be able to accommodate some technical equipment requests, however you will need to let us know what you require and we will do our best to accommodate.

Upon acceptance: artworks are to be delivered to Open Studio | Cambrian College on Mon, March 19, 5:00–8:00 pm or Tues, March 20, 9:30–11:30am. *Due to very limited storage space, we cannot accept physical artworks earlier than Mon, March 19. If this date/times aren’t workable for you, please get in touch to see if we’re able to make other arrangements. We will be installing the exhibition shortly thereafter.

We will provide a small honorarium to each exhibiting artist, amount to be determined by the number of artists and overall funding. Unfortunately, we cannot cover shipping or any other costs related to presenting your artwork in the exhibition.
