HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR NLFB WEEKEND

HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR NLFB WEEKEND

Do you hear that sound? It’s the sound of Bell Park coming alive for the summer season! Northern Lights Festival Boréal is ready to hit the city with FOUR jam-packed days of music July 4th-7th! Songcraft is the theme of this year’s festival line up. The roster of artists assembled for 2019 is as vast as ever covering all sorts of genres, and all with an incredible mastery of language and lyric. This year’s festival headliners include Sam Roberts Band, K’Naan, Bedouin Soundclash, and Half Moon Run. And that’s just the headliners, there’s always a ton of great acts to check out at the fest, vendors to browse, food to sample… What we’re basically saying is Bell Park is the place to be this weekend!

We hope we’ll be seeing you down at NLFB this weekend, to get you prepared to truly make the most of your festival experience we’ve put together a few recommendations for ultimate enjoyment.

Workshops

Have you ever wanted to learn more about the craft of songwriting? Workshops give you an amazing opportunity to hear some of your favourite NLFB artists talk about their craft. Topics on this year’s roster include World Party, Sad Songs, Ode to the Banjo and Guilty Pleasures. Learn from the artists as they collaborate and discuss their different techniques. You can catch workshop presentations at the Acoustic Stage throughout the afternoons on Saturday and Sunday. Find a shady spot under a tree, relax and enjoy!

Shop Local

Aside from the music one of our favourite parts of the festival is checking out the wares of some of the fabulous local vendors. Each year NLFB strives to give festival-goers a variety of food and artisan options to shop from and 2019 is no exception. They’ve assembled an army of food trucks and vendors to keep you well fed over the weekend serving up everything from Indian, Caribbean, Thai, to good old classic chip stand. Get yourself decked out in some new swag too and check out all the artisan and craft vendors on site! NLFB looks all year round for some of the most unique makers in the area, there is sure to be something for everyone to check out.

Musical Roulette

One of the best things about any music festival is catching an act you’ve never heard of and having a blast! NLFB is no exception and with so many stages to choose from you just never know what you might run into. Pick a show on the schedule that sounds interesting, take a recommendation from a friend, maybe even just pick a stage and set up camp for the day! Whatever your preference get ready to embrace the experience and get whisked away for a day of musical bliss.

Off-site shows

The Townehouse Tavern is the host for NLFB afterhours every night. That’s right, the party doesn’t stop when the park shuts down! Thursday features Haviah Mighty, Trapment for an ultimate kick off. Friday Mayhemingways with Jean-Paul De Roover (at the Lounge) or Zeus and David Dino White, Saturday Boogát and Jennis, and Sunday Oh Geronimo and Shaky Stars (The Lounge) or ECHLO and Rayannah. If late nights aren’t your style catch the William Ramsay at the Science North dock, Sunday at 5PM SHARP! Just 50 lucky festival goers will get the treat of a lifetime, an intimate boat show with The Fred Eaglesmith Show Starring Tif Ginn. He’s appreared on David Letterman, his enigmatic catalogue has been covered by some of your favourite names in music – and now he’ll be performing on Ramsay Lake! Special tickets available for this once in a lifetime voyage for just $25, don’t miss out!

You can still nab your tickets to the festival on July 4-7th by heading to nlfb.ca.
