PLAYMINE IS BACK FOR A SECOND TRIMESTER

PLAYMINE IS BACK FOR A SECOND TRIMESTER

Don’t miss out on a one of a kind theatre experience! PlayMine is back with the second edition of its new works presentations! This ingenious collaboration between Sudbury Theatre Centre and Pat the dog will see three working scripts presented in front of Sudbury audiences through out the 2018/2019 season. The first of such readings Manifestos by Jesse Brady in November was a hit with a great turn out, engaged audience and thoughtful conversation afterwards. In their second edition of the series Cora Eckert presents her working script,Conception, January 25th at 7pm. Admission is by donation and the reading will be followed by a Q&A with the playwright. Don’t miss your chance to get a seat and watch a brand new piece of theatre come to life!

In Conception, the stories of several families weave together: a young woman who comes to visit her single mother, heavily pregnant with a child that isn’t her own; a man and woman struggling with the concept of sperm donation and male sterility; and a lesbian couple whose friend and sperm donor sues for custody of the resulting child. Conception is an exploration of the possibilities of what a family can be and how it can come to exist in an age where third-party reproductive technology can challenge the idea of a straightforward “nuclear family”.

The opportunity to present a working script to an audience is invaluable to the process of creating a new piece of theatre. Pat the dog works heavily with Northern Ontario playwrights helping them develop their skills, navigate their next steps, work new pieces and network with other writers. Sudbury Theatre Centre has been a cornerstone in the community for over 45 years and aims always to provide extraordinary and engaging performances. A perfect duo to bring PlayMine to life! Conception will be read Friday Janurary 25th @7PM in Steve’s Encore at STC, written by local Cora Eckert with intimate conversation to follow. The last reading of the season will be April 5th, 2019 with a script written by award-winning Chapleau playwright Mansel Robinson.
