TAKE A WALK ON BOURBON STREET THIS WEEKEND

This is the most fun you’ll ever have taking a casual stroll downtown! Cedar Street will be transformed overnight to a swanky New Orleans bash! On Saturday, September 7th they’ll be kicking off the party at noon with a spectacular presentation of awe-inspiring stunts from The Silver Starlets. Join the main parade at 1 pm as the Nickel City Dixie Stompers guide you in style to two additional downtown venues to catch Alison Young and the Shuffle Demons! Activities at the Bourbon Street Jazzwalk on Cedar st are free to the public, some come join the fun! There will be street performances, local makers and food vendors from 12-3PM to check out. The Silver Starlets

The Silver Starlets is an all-female aerial acrobatic show. Full of glam, glitz and glitter, The Starlets use a 20-foot high free-standing trapeze rig for their stage. They twist, tumble, bend, climb and fall, getting the audience cheering, laughing and sometimes even dancing right along with them. But don’t let their tutus fool you because The Silver Starlets captivate their audience with family-friendly charm, beautiful grace, and amazing strength, these girls don’t sweat… they sparkle!

Alison Young

Alison Young is a JUNO nominated saxophonist, vocalist, and composer. Born in Ottawa, she moved to Toronto in the early 2000s to study music at the University of Toronto, and has been an active presence on the city’s jazz scene ever since. Young has toured across North America, Europe, South America, the Caribbean, and Asia with acts such as Alysha Brilla, Joe Sealy, Big Rude Jake, Johnny Reid, and the Shuffle Demons, and has appeared on over 40 recordings. In 2017 Alison was chosen as one of the ‘Best 35 Canadian Jazz Artists under 35’ by the CBC. Later that year, she was featured in Pat LaCroix and Ted O’Reilly’s book, “Toronto Jazz Treasures” alongside many of her musical heroes. Alison released her debut album “So Here We Are” in 2018, and received a 2019 JUNO nomination in the “Solo jazz instrumental” category. The album has been in regular rotation on CBC and JazzFM, as well as independent radio stations across the country, and reached #1 on the Earshot National Jazz Chart in the summer of 2019. Also in 2019, Young completed a 16 city stadium tour across Canada with pop icon Corey Hart, and was featured on his single “Dreaming Time Again”.

Shuffle Demons

The Shuffle Demons are a high-energy Canadian band that blends virtuosic jazz and funk playing with eye-catching costumes and over the top stage antics to produce an incredible show. A hit at festivals all over the world, the Shuffle Demons are a crowd-pleasing, full-on musical group that backs up wild stage antics with phenomenal playing by some of Canada’s most talented musicians.

Heavyweights Brass Band

The Heavyweights Brass Band has built a reputation as Canada’s reigning champions of feel-good horn music. Over the last decade, they have toured extensively and shared the stage with Trombone Shorty, The Roots, Galactic, and The Soul Rebels, among many others. Their unique style never fails to move any audience and has earned them a loyal following from fans across all genres.

Nickel City Dixie Stompers

Join the parade as The Nickel City Dixie Stompers lead you joyously on our annual Jazz Walk from club to club in the downtown. You can be part of the Second Line in old New Orleans fashion as the stompers play the upbeat Southern music that has captured much of North America. With a traditional lineup of trumpet, clarinet, trombone, banjo, sousaphone and drums the upbeat music of this ensemble will get you on your feet and dancing. From the classic St. Louis Blues to the ever popular Darktown Strutter’s Ball you’ll feel like you’re in the French Quarter sippin’ Bourbon or maybe a Sazerac. The ensemble includes leader Allan Walsh with Richard Perras, Blair McNally, Jeff Stewart, Marc Taillefer, and James Dorland.

L.U. Jazz Ensemble

Support Sudbury’s rising stars and their musical prowess while you enjoy some wine and cheese at La Fromagerie.

Jazz Sudbury kicks off Wednesday September 4th and runs until Saturday the 8th with shows happening downtown as well as at Bell Park over the weekend. This might be your last weekend to enjoy at the park for the season! Tickets are still available for the Jazz Sudbury, you can grab yours by visiting www.jazzsudbury.com.
