What is the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra?

The Sudbury Symphony Orchestra proudly presents high quality classical music in the city of Greater Sudbury. Under the Musical Direction of Mélanie Leonard we present a series of 5 mainstage concerts, 2 chamber works and an Opera. We are also well known for our free education programs, including our free noon-hour concert series, popular library chats and in-school and library programs for young children.

What are some of the SSO’s must-see shows or events coming soon?

Our holiday performance, Handel’s Messiah will take place on November 26th at 7:30pm. This is a not-to be missed event featuring four renowned local soloists and a choir of 105!

Following that performance we go on something of a “mid-winter hiatus” but the SSO will be back with a chamber performance on February the 11th and a main stage concert featuring Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony on March 25th!

Favourite holiday song?

Vince Guaraldi’s famous score to “A Charlie Brown Christmas” –  I can’t wait to my friends at Jazz Sudbury present their version this December!

Favourite thing about the holidays in Sudbury?

I love all the local craft markets and shows featuring the works of some of our incredible local artists. But for me? The biggest attraction is the SNOW! Whenever possible I try to head out for Christmas Eve cross country ski—so keep your fingers crossed for me.
