HEALTH FOOD STORE REVIEW: WELLNESS SHOPPE

HEALTH FOOD STORE REVIEW: WELLNESS SHOPPE

Wellness Shoppe is a cozy health food store located in the south end of Sudbury (1769 Regent St.).  This store carries all your basics to start on your health journey and some pretty cool specialty products I came across.  I was able to easily make my way through the store in about 15 minutes, which is very rare for me, as everything was very well organized.  There is a supplements section, food/snacks section, freezer at the back filled with gluten-free items, fridge at the front, and some neat lunch box idea items.

Here is my list of some must try/buy, or at least check out, items at this store:

Chimes: Toasted Coconut Hard Toffee with Sea Salt.

For those of you who have ever tried ginger chews by the company Chimes, you will know how amazing they are.  This company has the ability to take some “healthier” ingredients and turn them into something that will remind you of candy from your childhood.  The toasted coconut hard toffees can make anyone on a dairy free, vegan or gluten free diet fall back in love with toffee flavoured candies.  These are easy to travel with or have in a dish to grab and go, also a good option for children who are able to have cane sugar.

Owls Brew: Tea Crafted for Cocktails

Maybe you have been hitting the gym hard lately and trying to watch what you consume? Or maybe you just enjoy a nice cocktail? This product is your solution to making your alcoholic beverages taste good with a lot less calories and sugar.  These are bottles of infused teas with fruit juices and more natural sweeteners that are meant to be mixed with alcohol to create a great flavour.  Each one comes with a list of recommended alcohols to mix it with, and some flavours include: Salted Caramel Toddy, Grapefruit Collins, Mulling Spices and Wicked Green.

You Love Veggies: Handmade Fruit Leather

This is a great product for kids, yes it is adult friendly too considered I have gobbled it up before, but it is perfect for kids who love fruit snacks.  These products are made from 100% fruits and vegetables with no added sugars and are non-gmo.  They are perfectly sweet and have the same chewy consistency as a sugar filled “fruit snack”.

Abeego: Keep Food Alive

Now this is one of the neatest eco-friendly products I have seen in a while, and the fact that it is available in Sudbury is even cooler.  If you have never heard of this product you will need to google it ASAP.  This is a beeswax wrapper that can be used and reused to wrap around produce to keep fresh or to cover a bowl.  You would use this product the same way you would use plastic wrap, and when you are finished instead of throwing it out and creating more trash, you wash it in cool water and use it again.

Pure: Infused Maple Syrup

Why have regular maple syrup, when you can have something even better?  Growing up in Northern Ontario maple syrup was something we always had on the table for breakfast, and now this company is making normal maple syrup look boring.  They have taken maple syrup and infused it with different spices and flavours to bring your syrup to the next level.   The flavours they offer are vanilla cinnamon and star anise, cinnamon nutmeg and cloves, lavender and chai, maple gastrique, and chipotle and lemon grass.  These flavours can be used as your regular syrup on pancakes or added to recipes such as muffins, cookies, oatmeal, nice-cream, sauces, and stir-fries, the possibilities are endless.  So stop using sugar in your recipes and switch to an infused maple syrup.

More about the wellness shoppe such as store hours and product info can be found on their Facebook page, also check out their Instagram for some fun pics of products they carry.
