5 THINGS YOU HAVE TO EAT BEFORE YOU CAN CALL YOURSELF A SUDBURIAN

5 THINGS YOU HAVE TO EAT BEFORE YOU CAN CALL YOURSELF A SUDBURIAN

Since moving to Sudbury from Vancouver, and swapping my rain boots for snow boots, the gracious people of Sudbury have offered me countless amounts of recommendations regarding their favorite restaurants in town to visit.   The best food and restaurants in any given city is always a hotly debated topic, and Sudbury is no different.  And while I do love a good “best of” list, this list is not *exactly* that. This list comprises restaurants, and more specifically menu items, that could be considered quintessentially Sudbury.  The food that is as culturally significant in our town as they are delicious.  The icons.  The only list you need to complete if you want to bear the title of a true “Sudburian”.

EDDIE’S BREAKFAST

Any place that has a breakfast platter than includes a Caesar (the “Hungry Man’s Hangover Special”) is a place after my own heart.  You can’t go wrong with low-lightning, sports in the background, and classic breakfast staples on a Sunday morning.

TOWNHOUSE BURGER

It took me longer than I care to admit to make it to the Townhouse for one of their renowned burgers.  If there is one thing in life I regret, it is all the wasted time I spent not eating beet burgers every day since I’ve lived here.  Link:

DELUXE FRIES

I’ve been told time and time again that Sudbury is a “one arch town”.  This fast-food restaurant may be just an iconic as the big Nickel in Sudbury, with the secret to its success being the super tasty fries.

JAK’S BREAKFAST

Two breakfast places in one list?   Did I mention that I am from Vancouver?  I take breakfast and brunch very, very seriously.  Comforting breakfast classics with great service, and pie is always on the menu.  What’s not to love? Link:

CORTINA “KITCHEN SINK” PIZZA

Cortina has been an institution in Sudbury since 1964.  New to Ontario like me?  Enjoy pizza, all the while learning a new, super-Ontarian menu term!

A self-proclaimed bon vivant and travel addict, she lives for new adventures and checking things off her multitude of "want to do" lists. She can be found eating nachos at Tucos, or playing outside with her dog and camera by her side.
