EVENTS TO GET YOU INTO THE HOLIDAY SPIRIT IN SUDBURY

If you haven’t quite managed to get your jingle bell spirit going for the season it’s not too late yet! Sometimes the stress of the holidays can take you out of actually enjoying them. No matter what the holidays have in store for you this year take some time to enjoy some favourite traditions or maybe even start a fresh one! Sudbury still has lots of fun and exciting events coming up to check out if you’ve been feeling a little Grinchy this season. Take a look and get out there in good cheer!

Festival of Lights – Daily 4:30PM-1AM, Science North, Donations encouraged

An annual time honoured tradition in support of the Sudbury Charities Foundation. Tour their spectacular displace of Christmas lights by foot or from your warm toasty vehicle until January 4th. Proceeds from the Festival of Lights are donated to organizations and programs such as Send A Kid To Camp, Ten Rainbows, Better Beginnings, Better Futures, the NEO Kids Foundation, Our Children Our Future and more.

Disney’s Mary Poppins! Presented by the YES Theatre Orchestra – December 12-14th, Glad Tidings Church, Tickets: $30-40

Mary Poppins features a cast of 26 actors including favourite local YES Theatre company members Leah Perreault, Jake Deeth, Tessa Gooden, Colin Eady, Jess Crowe and Janie Pinard! As well as an orchestra of 16 renowned local musicians! this production promises to be SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPIALIDOCIOUS!

Christmas Drag & Variety Show – December 13th @ 9PM, Zigs Bar, Cover: $10

‘‘Tis gonna be the holiday season! That means Santa is coming to town and he is bringing Joan Rivers aka Tim Murphy for a holiday treat. We have a star-studded night of show-stopping moments including local kings, queens and the inbetweens! Talon Schneider, YANNI Starr, Ivonna Richman, Sly Sky and The Jingle Tits will all be in the house to get you in the holiday spirit. Get your seat early for what promises to be an extremely Energetic and Fun-filled night!

Mixology 101: Drinking Through The Holidays – December 14th @ 3PM, The Alibi Room, Tickets: $65 limited availability

In this course, we examine three cocktails that can be prepared ahead of your next holiday party and are sure to have all your guests licking their lips! Whether you want an authentic egg nog that only improves as it ages in your refrigerator, a punch bowl that you can assemble hours or even days ahead, or a special secret ingredient that keeps indefinitely in your freezer, this course will help you prepare, impress, and imbibe!

Love Actually Screening at the Indie – December 14th @ 7PM, Sudbury Indie Cinema Co-op

British Christmas time Rom-Com extravaganza. This 2003 movie has become a Christmas classic: a guilty pleasure for closeted Colin Firth /Hugh Grant fans everywhere. Large ensemble cast including Liam Neeson, Emma Thompson, Laura Linney, Keira Knightly, Alan Rickman… Bill Nighy… and MORE and MORE! Dress as a character! Audience interaction! Prizes. Partial proceeds from LOVE ACTUALLY will be donated to Sudbury Temporary Overdose Prevention Society!!

Nickel City Trivia: Christmas Edition – December 17th @ 8PM, The Townehouse Tavern, Free to play

Tuesday December 17th is the last trivia night before Christmas and the New Year. To celebrate, the quiz that week will feature themed questions as well as prizes fit for the season. It will be a free trivia night, as always, and start at 8pm. Come nice and early though to ensure you get a table and enjoy some Townehouse food.

Sappy Holi-Gays Queer Dance Party – December 19th @ 8PM, Sudbury Indie Cinema Co-op, Cover: $10

Queer North Film Festival invites all LGBTQ2S & allies to break in the sexy dance floor at Indie Cinema with a full-on dance for the holidays. Dress Code: none, but prizes for glitter or faux fur look. Come find your people and be transgressive on the dance floor. More details will be released as we get ’em!

The Beatles Night (and Day) – December 20th & 21st, The Townehouse Tavern, Cover: $10

Friday Night music 9pm to 12am and Saturday Matinee music 3pm to 6pm. Join our local musicians for 2 shows of The Music of The Beatles. The core members plus the MG Brass join in to celebrate pop’s greatest group. While this season’s shows will feature a tribute to the Abbey Road Album (50 Years)!

3rd Annual Christmas Rager – December 21st, The Lounge, Cover: $5

It’s that time of year again! Another Christmas Rager is upon us. This year we bring back Christmas Rager vets Death or Never Die & DrugWolf. We’re also bringing the newly formed Exes for their own brand of Rock and Roll! Best ugly sweater contest – let’s see those repulsive threads – prizes for crowd voted winner!

Last Chance Christmas Pop-Up – December 22nd 1-6PM, La Fromagerie, Free entry

‘Twas three days before Christmas and all through the city the creatures were stirring with hopes to fill their stockings in time to hang by the chimney… or something like that! Skip the New Sudbury traffic and the mall parking lot and join us downtown on Sunday, December 22 for the Last Chance Christmas Pop Up! We’ve partnered with some great local vendors who will be able to finish off your shopping list for you.
