5 events you need to check out this weekend in Sudbury

Where did the summer go? Labour Day weekend is here which means summer is officially over and it’s time to pack away all of our favourite summer clothes. I don’t think any of us are really ready for the cold weather to roll in so let’s make the best of the last long weekend of summer and check out these five events.

Downtown Sudbury Ribfest

Ribfest is back and this time they are at a new location. The 11th Annual Downtown Sudbury Ribfest will take place at the Sudbury Arena parking lot on Minto street in downtown Sudbury. The three-day festival is In support of the Sudbury YMCA Strong Kids Campaign, which allows families in our community to access all of the Y’s programs and services regardless of their financial circumstance. There will be twenty-six local bands playing throughout the weekend and you can check out the full schedule here. The Rib Teams are all set up and they will start selling ribs today at 11am.

Baker Street Jazz Quartet at the Market

Downtown Sudbury is the place to be on the weekend. Every Saturday you can find some amazing vendors at the Greater Sudbury Market and often they will have live music as well. This Saturday from 11am-1pm you’ll be able to enjoy music from the Baker Street Jazz Quartet. Grab a coffee at Old Rock and walk over to the market to pick up some fresh produce and stay to enjoy live music from these talented musicians.

AfroFest Sudbury 2018

This Saturday from 12pm-4pm at the Grace Hartman Amphitheatre you’ll be able to experience the diverse culture, music, dance, food, arts and craft of Africa. This is the first time this event is happening in Sudbury. Admission is free. There will be an after party at Coyotes Lounge & Nightclub.

Xmap Adventure Challenge

The YMCA Community Action Network wants you  to tie up your running shoes, grab some friends and go crawl, climb and run your way through their adventure trail obstacle course this Sunday! There will be prizes and snacks and registration is open for youth ages 9-18. If you’re up for the challenge you can sign up for the free event by calling 705-674-2324 ex.3255 or emailing jessica.brule@ymcaneo.ca.

Labour Day In the Park

The Sudbury and District Labour Council will be hosting their annual Labour Day in the Park festival at Bell Park on Monday from 10am-4pm. This is a free family event and there will be bouncy castles, face painting, booths, food vendors, games and music.
