Miss North Ontario Regional Canada Pageant

Miss North Ontario Regional Canada Pageant

Miss North Ontario Regional Canada Pageant is an annual event that takes place in Sudbury every May. This year there are 44 contestants from all over Northern Ontario. The winner receives over $10,000 in prizes as well as a $2,000 cash scholarship!

We spoke with Cheryl Kozera, President, about the pageant and what the weekend will consist of.

How did you get involved with Miss North Ontario?

I had been the Director for the Capreol Pageant for many years and a chaperone at the then existing Miss Northern Ontario Pageant.  When that event concluded, I decided I wanted to introduce a new form of pageantry to Northern Ontario in that it would provide our delegates with a weekend filled with empowerment workshops and training, promote tourism in Northern Ontario and support Northern Ontario charities such as NOFCC Northern Ontario Families of Children with Cancer.  It has now been 11 years since we started MNO and the event continues to be a success year after year.

Delegates give back to their community by promoting tourism in Sudbury and raising funds for Northern Ontario Families of Children with Cancer – where can we find out more about the events organized by delegates for 2016?

You can visit the delegates Facebook pages where they are announcing events that they will be hosting. Since 2005, we have annually encouraged our delegates to host a fundraiser in their respective communities raising awareness and funding for this worthy charity.  As of 2015, we had made the $200,000.00 mark with donations, a very proud moment for all of us.

What does being named Miss North Ontario mean to the delegates?

Being named Miss North Ontario is an acknowledgement of a young lady who has worked very hard scholastically, within her community and school, volunteers her time for organizations, has an approachable personality that makes others comfortable in her presence, speaks well in front of a group and just has that beauty from the inside out that commands attention.  She is selfless, driven, compassionate, proud and wants to give back.  She has a backbone, stands up for herself and others and wants only the best opportunities for herself.  To have this title on her resume and credentials will be something that will benefit her forever.

What does the weekend consist of and what has been the favourite part in past years?

The weekend consists of empowerment and motivational workshops and training, training for all facets of competition such as stage presentation, interview, and public speaking.  Delegate activities to get to know one another, a fitness competition, fashion photo shoot and so much more.

This year you’ve added the opportunity for young ladies from the community to join delegates on stage, how can these girls get involved or find out more?

We are introducing little pageant sisters as a fundraiser for NOFCC during the Preliminary Competition of MNO.  Little girls aged 4-8 can have opportunity to join a delegate on stage during the evening gown competition and be crowned a pageant princess.  Entry Fee is $25 and they can register at mnonofccprincess@gmail.com  for forms and information. Deadline for submission will be May 1.
