Five events you need to check out in Sudbury this weekend

Funderaisers, live music and film festivals should fill up your time this weekend. Try out a yoga class with Zen Fitness, support the Canadian Cancer Society at the Colours of Hope 5K or catch a film at Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival – we’ve rounded up five events we think you need to check out in Sudbury this weekend.

Yoga in the Park

Join CNIB and Zen Fitness for Yoga in the Park, by candle light. This is an amazing opportunity to gain knowledge on what YOU and CNIB can do to help Canadians living with vision loss by building the confidence, skills and opportunities they need to fully participate in life. A CNIB client will be there to share their personal vision loss story followed by yoga with Jenn Ricker from Zen Fitness. Blindfolds will be available if you want to experience Yoga in the Park – in the dark. The class will take place Friday, September 14th at 8pm and will cost $25 with proceeds going to CNIB.

Colours of Hope 5K

Support the Canadian Cancer Society and add a splash of colour to your running calendar at Colours of Hope 5K Sudbury! Registration opens at 9am and the run starts at 10am this Saturday, September 15th at Kivi Park.

The Grizzlies: Cinefest Opening Night Gala

Cinefest Sudbury kicks off this Saturday, September 15th at 7pm with The Grizzlies followed by their opening night gala at Montanas. The Grizzlies is about Inuit youth in a small community who gain a powerful sense of pride and purpose through the sport of lacrosse. You can watch the trailer for The Grizzlies here and get your tickets here. Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival takes place every year and promotes Canadian cinema and supporting our domestic industry. The festival takes place September 15th until the 23rd and you can see the full lineup here.

Stack Brewing Presents: ZAUM // Firebreather

Head over to the Townehouse Tavern this Saturday, September 15th for $5 pints of Stack Brewing Beer and catch ZAUM and Firebreather live. Tickets are $5 in advance or $10 at the door.

What They Had: Cinefest Sunday Night Gala

Catch What They Had at Cinefest this Sunday night at 7pm. What They Had is about a women with dementia, Ruth, who gets out of bed and wanders off into a blizzard. Ruth’s brief disappearance triggers the homecoming of her daughter Bridget and teenage granddaughter Emma. The episode also renews lifelong tensions between Burt and estranged son Nicky. As they all debate placing Ruth into a memory care facility, family ties begin to fray, rekindling a rivalry between the adult siblings. You can watch the trailer here and get your tickets here.
