24 Hours in Sudbury

24 Hours in Sudbury

Now personally I do not think that 24 hours in Sudbury is even close to enough but it’s doable. Whether you’re in town for work, a stop over, or you live here and just want to spend a day exploring – we suggest you start in Downtown Sudbury.

Fuel your adventure with a coffee from one of our great local coffee shops. Salute Coffee Company, Kuppajo Espresso Bar, Old Rock Coffee and The Cedar Nest Decor Cafe are a few of our favourites.

Eat Breakfast.

Breakfast is an important meal and a lot of places in Sudbury do breakfast REAL well. If you’re downtown on the weekend we suggest grabbing a delicious breakfast at the Motley Kitchen or  if you need a hangover cure, Eddies is the place for you. My favourite is the coffee-water-ceasar and poutine homefrie.

Shop Local.

The shop local mentality is growing in Sudbury and we love seeing locals (and visitors) supporting some of our great homegrown shops. While your downtown, take a walk around. Durham and Cedar street have some really great local spots like Stitch & Stone, One SkyGood Luck General Store and 66.

After shopping, treat yourself at Guilty Pleasures Bakeshop & Bar! You will thank us later.

Take in the sights.

Sudbury is beautiful – especially in the summer. If the weather is working in your favour, take your coffee and head to the Bell Park Boardwalk. Here you can walk along one of our over 330 lakes and spend some time in the great outdoors. If you’re spending some time in Sudbury during the winter, bring your skates and instead of walking the boardwalk you can skate our Ramsey Lake Skating Path.  If you start your walk at the boat launch you’ll end up at our science centre – Science North. This place isn’t just for kids so check out what exhibits they have on and plan to make a stop  here.

If you’re feeling like a more challenging walk, make the short drive to the Lake Laurentian Conservation Area and head out on one of the 13 trails.

If you don’t feel like leaving the downtown core, you can take yourself on a self guided mural tour. If you’re looking for some new Instagram photos, check our out Top 5 Instagram Hot Spots in Sudbury.

Eat lunch.

By now you’re going to want to grab a bite to eat. When the sun is shining we love to spend our afternoons eating lunch on a patio. Tucos Tacos Lounge, The Laughing Buddha, Tony V’s , P&M Kouzzina and Taphouse Northern Grill + Pub are some of our favourites. You can also check out our Top 5 Downtown Sudbury Patios.

If you aren’t ready for a big meal but you want a light snack head to La Fromagerie for a delicious cheese platter.

Be a tourist.

After lunch, if you want to hit our most touristy spot we suggest making the drive to the Big Nickel. Yes, Sudbury is home to a very large nickel and we’re pretty proud of that thing. Fun fact: there used to be a big penny too. This is also where Dynamic Earth is so you can go on a guided underground tour and find out more about Sudbury’s mining heritage.

While you’re out at that end, stop by Stack Brewing and pick yourself up some of our favourite beers from our local craft brewery. If you call ahead, you may be able to get a tour of the brewery too.

If you want to check out some amazing local art, head over to the Art Gallery of Sudbury. The history of the Art Gallery is also really interesting – it is definitely haunted so beware. Not sure what I’m talking about? We spent a night there with Psychic Medium Chantal so watch our video to find out.

Eat dinner.

We love to eat in Sudbury so we have a lot of delicious local dinner spots. Respect is Burning is a favourite for all of the Italian lovers. Alexandria’s does Mediterranean real well and everything on their menu is incredible. A few more of our favourites are Di Gusto, Oscar’s Grill and Ripe.

If you love pasta, check out our Top 5 picks for local pasta dishes and pick one for yourself.

Hit the town.

Our downtown is small but it can be lively. Especially if you’re in town on a weekend. If you’re grabbing dinner at Respect is Burning, you can head over to Reg Fang Tavern which is another one of our favourite spots. They always have great live music and delicious drinks. The vibe is very cool and makes for a great night out. If you’re looking for more of a club feel, SRO Nightclub & Lounge is right across the street or the historic Grand Nightclub on Elgin St. Looking for a spot to enjoy a carefully crafted cocktail and good conversation? Sudbury’s latest edition to the nightlife scene the Alibi Room is opening late March providing the perfect atmosphere. We’re big on our live music here so most places you’ll be able to catch some of our local talent but a trip to Sudbury would NOT be complete without a stop at the iconic Townehouse Tavern.

End your night with a meatball sub from Peppi Panini.

Bonus stop.

On your way out of town your last stop should 100% be Deluxe Hamburgers. You’ll quickly find out why Sudbury is a one arch town!
